Engaging Policymakers on Capitol Hill

ATAP representatives regularly meet with Congressional members and their staff in DC to educate them on the rebate system and the drug market and to discuss potential legislative solutions. To date, we have met with over 20 members and their staff, including Representatives Doug Collins (R-GA) and Buddy Carter (R-GA), and Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Paul Ryan (R-KY), and Al Franken (D-MN). ATAP representatives have also met with representatives from the Office of Management and Budget and are working with them to develop solutions through budgetary mechanisms. We also sent a letter expressing our support for the Creating Transparency to Have Drug Rebates Unlocked (C-THRU) Act (S. 637) to Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), and are working with his and other Senate offices to garner support for this bill.

ATAP representatives recently attended a hearing held by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions on the cost of prescription drugs and how the drug delivery system affects what patients pay, and submitted written testimony for the Committee’s consideration.

ATAP representatives have also had multiple meetings with MedPAC to discuss the impact of the rebate system and PBMs on Medicare, including one with MedPAC Commissioners Kathy Buto and Jack Hoadley. Currently, ATAP and MedPAC are actively working together to develop a comprehensive solution to address this problem.
