Dr. Schweitz was born and raised in Washington, DC. He completed a seven year undergraduate and medical school program at the George Washington University in 1972. He completed his internal medicine training at GW where he was Assistant Chief Medical Resident. Upon completion of his Rheumatology Fellowship at Georgetown University in 1977, he moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, and entered private practice.

Dr. Schweitz is board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. He joined the medical staff of Good Samaritan Medical Center in 1977, currently serving as Chief of Rheumatology. He co-founded Arthritis and Rheumatology Associates of Palm Beach in 1994 and sees patient at the West Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens locations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Founding Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology.

Dr. Schweitz has served as a member of the Committee on Rheumatologic Care of the American College of Rheumatology. He is a past president of the Florida Society of Rheumatology and continues to sit on its Executive Committee. He is an active member of the Florida Medical Association and the American Society of Clinical Densitometry. Dr. Schweitz has served on the Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation at both state and local levels for many years and volunteers his time in helping to staff their arthritis clinic for medically indigent patients in Palm Beach County. He has also participated in over 100 clinical research trials as a principal or sub-investigator involved in the development of new therapies for the treatment of rheumatic diseases.

He is currently the president of the Coalition of State Rheumatology Organizations (CSRO), an advocacy group comprised of state and regional Rheumatology societies which he helped to establish in 2003. In this capacity, he has been an active proponent of advocacy for rheumatic diseases in the nation's capital.

Dr. Schweitz is also a frequent lecturer on topics related to rheumatology and practice management and has been recognized in "Best Doctors of South Florida" and "America's Top Physicians." His areas of expertise include rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and gout, as well as other rheumatic, musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions.
